On Thursday November 16th, the drama club at Sunlake High School hosted a meeting after school where they had the sponsor of the club, Ms. West, and the vice president go through the process on how to donate to the annual pet drive. At the meeting they also went over their early plans for the spring musical “Mamma Mia” and what you need to audition. They went over from how long the auditions should be to the dancing audition and what it would be like. Mia Young, a sophomore at Sunlake who is in the drama club, attended the meeting. She stated that, “…drama club meetings are always fun because while we do discuss important information at the meetings, it’s an opportunity to meet and hang out with your friends after school.” Mia feels like the meeting was enlightening and cleared up all the questions she had about the auditions. For example, she learned how to put in thespian points, which you can get by doing shows or being a club officer, like volunteering.
Mia is new at acting in shows and has only been in two plays during her freshman year. She will be auditioning for Mamma Mia this December because she likes “…to portray characters where I almost have to study them. I was in two plays last year and those were the first ones I have done in a long time. Singing is more of my strong suits and I have been trying to get more involved with acting this year so I can improve my skills.”
