It’s that time of season again! Invite everyone over for delicious food and a good time together. This year Lara Sterns and her family didn’t quite stay at home. They were invited over to their family-friend’s house in Lakeland to spend the day of thanks together.
Lara and her family got to spend their thanksgiving with her dad’s best friends, who they most definitely consider family. Along with “…not blood cousins but they are considered my cousins.” Each family chipped in some food to make the classic meals of Thanksgiving!
“We got to eat turkey, corn, tomatoes, stuffing, and gravy. Dessert was lemon, pumpkin, and chocolate pie, as well as some vanilla ice cream for me because I don’t really like pie,” Lara noted. All the cousins sat together and discussed current relationships. “I got to meet and approve all my cousins’ girlfriends.” Lara got to talk about her two horses and how horseback riding has been for her. They played manhunt together, which is like tag, but your mission is to make it to a designated home base without being tagged. The best of the activities together was a Christmas exchange. Lara explained, “…it’s like secret Santa but for Thanksgiving because we don’t get to see each other for Christmas.”
To Lara, Thanksgiving is “…time that we get to spend together…” as a family. She has an older brother named Logan. This Thanksgiving Logan decided to make the trip to Lakeland with them. “My brother is in college, so I never get to see him, but he came with us this year,” said Lara excitedly. “All of our cousins who are in college, all of them and their girlfriends, made the trip too.” When asked what she was thankful for this year her answer was “…friends, family, my two horses, the life that I have and the ability to do what I love, and horseback riding.” School was out for the whole week. Lara not only enjoyed her time on Thanksgiving Day but the rest of the week too. She spent her time either at her brother’s soccer games or at the barn with her horses. The best thing for Lara about Thanksgiving is “…eating food, catching up with people, being able to tell family and friends how you are doing.” She also enjoyed talking about her horses. More importantly getting to see her brother because she loves to spend time with him.
