On Tuesday December 5th the Seahawk Boys went up against East Lake High School. The game was intense. In the first half, the seahawks were down by two and were not going down without a fight. They were ready to bring their all and finish off with the win. The team were able to score two goals tying the score 2-2 by the end. Yet, this wasn’t the outcome they had hoped for. Tying the game meant that the boys are officially out of the Champions League. The news no one wanted to hear.
Junior John Feeney went into this game like any other game, he was ready. He did his usual to prepare: “Listen to music, chill with his teammates in the locker room, make sure to stretch, and try to get a few passes in.” John has a headband he wears to every game as a tradition. Feeney mentioned “… every time I wear it, I usually win.” Acknowledging that this game was big for the Seahawks, John was “…nervous because I didn’t want to let the team down.” He said, “I thought we had a good chance of winning; we were told we are the better team and we thought we were the better team.” Despite all the nervousness, everyone went on that field excited to play and ready to win. In the first half of them game Feeney noticed,”… the team played a little nervous and got a little too caught up.” However, coming back from a locker room chat with the whole team before second half, “…we pulled it back together.” John commented that ” I was a little mad I didn’t play my best; I wish I could’ve done better.” There were some good plays by the team. John pointed out “…I think we had a couple good corners and free kicks.” The best moment in that game was the first goal “… because it shows that we were back in it.” The tie was definitely upsetting and none of the Seahawks were happy about it. “We were hoping to move on with the W.”
John has been playing soccer since he was two years old. For 14 years he has loved playing soccer because it’s a fun team sport that allows him to meet and make friends that love doing the same thing. His motivation comes from every win and every improvement he makes to his abilities. He is willing to play soccer in college if the opportunity is given to him though offers and scholarships. He believes the Sunlake team is a “…good environment. Everyone is there to get everyone else better.” The team is always supportive of each other, and always have each other’s back through thick and thin.
