The Junior Varsity Seahawk’s soccer team have accomplished so much this season. The have been undefeated so far all season. On December 18th they played against Weeki Wachee High School at the Sunlake Stadium. The results were as expected, an amazing 8-0 win taken by the Seahawk boys.
The goalie of the night was sophomore, John Hanzlik. John went into this game like any other. He got pumped up with his music, he stretched and got a good warm up in. He did his tradition, which is to “…jump up and hit the crossbar three times, then hang on it for a little bit. John commented, “I knew it was going to be an easy game. I was expecting to touch the ball once maybe.” He was more nervous that the other team wouldn’t show up than about playing against them. The game went pretty smoothly, “…Just very cold…” in John’s opinion. Everyone played very well and the only change would have been to win faster. John suggested “If we played a little quicker and more accurate, it would have been better… but we had good attacking opportunities, good through balls, and great runs.” He didn’t end up doing much that night in his position because the seahawks were doing a good job keeping the ball on Weeki Wachee’s half of the field. He was yelling at everyone from the back; being their second pair of eyes, which he said “…is part of the job, I gotta direct everyone.” Overall, Hanzlik believes the team was great and wouldn’t have expected any less from their performance that night.
John has been playing soccer since he was three years old and has been a keeper for five years. His favorite part of the game is “…always the first goal!” Soccer wasn’t the only sport he played as a kid; he also played flag football. However, soccer was the only sport he kept going with. Getting better and see his progression in the sport motivates him to keep going. He definitely wants to play soccer in college. Although his main goal is to go to USF for their medical program. John’s favorite part of playing with the Sunlake boys is their “… good energy, all nice teammates with fun personalities.”
