Sofia Perez and her club volleyball team had a fun weekend attending the First in Show Tournament in Ocala. Sofia mentioned that her teams mindset going into the tournament was “…to play hard and have fun, as it is our first real tournament, and we played at an open level!” To play at an open level meant that Sofia’s team will face many competitive and advanced club teams like her own. In preparation for this tournament her team worked very hard in practice and worked on perfecting their offensive plays. Her team did not disappoint during the tournament, as they performed very well, scoring third in gold! Sofia said that throughout the tournament, “We had many great moments, between celebrating wins, and funny fails. But our favorite part had to be our celebratory team dinners every night.” Overall, Sofia spoke of how nice the tournament was. She said that it doubled as a convention center and an equestrian world center, so it was beautifully built and very clean.
Outside of volleyball, Sofia mentioned that there have been many changes brought into her life while entering the new year. Some of the major changes that she has experienced throughout this month were between her friendships and school life. She expressed that, “I’m proud of myself, and the way that I’ve handled it all. I can’t wait to see what the new year brings me.”
