Sunlake High School hosted a blood drive on January 19th with OneBlood, a blood donation organization. Junior Lynn Raad donated blood. This was her second time donating blood. She tells of her experience highlighting the lively atmosphere. She “…always has a lot of fun because they play music and the nurses dance.” During her first time giving blood, the experience was not as pleasant. Lynn went with her friend Gabby and she described an incident where “…they had three nurses poke me…” which caused her to almost pass out. She wants to donate blood because she thinks it’s nice knowing that she is helping someone; getting to skip class is an added bonus. The blood drive gives students the opportunity to help others and creates a sense of community engagement within the school. Lynn Raad recommended blood donating and “…would definitely donate blood again…” because of the great selection of snacks provided and the plus of helping others. These benefits overall enhanced her blood giving experience. Sunlake hosts blood drives with OneBlood every few months. The regular blood drives further solidify Sunlake’s commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the classroom.
