During this year’s basketball season, the girls varsity team has played very well. Last week the girls had a game the same night as the boys’ varsity team. The boys team played against Steinbrenner High School, while the girls played Durant High School. While the girls team sadly lost, it was a close game with a 54-46 score. Dawn Figueroa already starts on the team as a freshman. Dawn said that she is “…really grateful for this opportunity. Although there is a lot of pressure and expectations.” Before the game began Dawn was feeling nervous. Listening to music as well as spending time with her team can help her get rid of the nerves and give her more motivation. When asked about what she was feeling before and after the game Dawn said “During the game once the team scores, we get hyped I feel calm and focused. After the game me and my team reflect on our performance. I go over the film to point out my mistakes.” The game against Durant High School was a tough game but the girls still had a great game. The team is not letting the loss stop them in the way of continuing to play great and improving their skills for future games by reflecting on past games such as this one.
