Winter is a popular time for many of us to travel somewhere, get a change of scenery, and continue on traditions with family. Noah Downey, a junior at Sunlake talked about his holiday travels and traditions. “My family and I drove up to Georgia to visit Blueridge for our annual fall/winter visit where we stayed in a cabin,” he said. He stated that one of the highlights of his trip was that, “…this year we woke up to falling snow for the first time!”
Noah also spent some of his winter break closer to home. He shares how his family goes to their grandparents house every year on Christmas Eve. “In the family we have a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds so every Christmas Eve we alternate which food we would eat,” he explained. “This year was Cuban where we had plantains, beans, rice, all you can imagine. On Christmas Day my family meets up again at my house where we have an Italian Christmas dinner.”
Another Christmas tradition that Noah and his family are a part of is their annual cereal drive for the Joshua house. He said, “It’s a great program where they are dedicated to helping less fortunate kids.” He and his siblings helped collect donations and delivered everything to the house. All of the Christmas traditions and experiences that Noah has seem to be very special for him to share. This is just one student’s point of view of the winter break and there are many more different stories that could be shared.
