On January 13th, Sunlake’s girls’ soccer team played in two championships. Senior Campbell Taylor explained that she has “…been playing soccer since I was 5 years old.” Campbell said she has always loved the sport and has played on varsity all four years of high school. Campbell also mentioned how close the team is, saying “…we are like a family… even off the field I consider all of these girls my best friends.” Campbell is the captain of her team and her positive attitude is a key part in her role.
The Championships
Campbell explained how the championships went, saying the team beat Cypress Creek and won the conference championship before beating PHU at Al Lang Stadium that same day. Campbell said, “Two championships in one day is a once in a lifetime type of thing and it was an incredible experience playing under the lights at such an amazing field.” “After the game, the feeling was amazing,” she added, saying that the whole team dogpiled before receiving their trophy and medals. She also mentioned how amazing Al Lang Stadium was from her point-of-view and how proud she was of the whole team, noting “I personally was very proud of the girls… Making school history twice in one day was an amazing feeling.” Campbell also mentioned that although she plays competitive soccer and is going to play at The University of West Georgia. She said, “I will never forget the memories made at Sunlake soccer. I feel very blessed to have been able to play in not only such a successful and talented program, but to meet these girls who love this sport as much as I do.”
