On February 14th, love is in the air, and couples are as happy as can be. For those who aren’t in a relationship or just simply don’t like the holiday, all the hype surrounding Valentine’s Day is not worth it. Freshman Kendall Allen is among the few who really dislike Valentine’s Day. “I don’t like Valentine’s Day because I never have a Valentine,” she said jokingly, “…but in all seriousness, why do we need a whole day celebrating couples?” Kendall thinks that having a holiday dedicated to people showing affection for each other is pointless. “Aren’t couples supposed to love each other every day? It just all seems pointless,” she continued. Most people who don’t like Valentine’s Day just ignore it, but Kendall went as far as to remind herself not to wear pink or red just to oppose the holiday. “I’ve always hated Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure why I did as a child, but getting older it just got more annoying seeing so many couples,” Kendall claimed. Kendall is not the affectionate type that’s for sure. However, she eventually had to admit that there are a few upsides to Valentine’s Day. Those who love the holiday and those who hate the holiday can all agree on one thing: chocolate is the best part of Valentine’s Day. She also has to admit that the fashion choices made on Valentine’s Day were great. “I loved seeing everyone in red and pink, and a lot of girls had their makeup done really cute with hearts and all that,” she said, “I would say the greatest part of the day was the school day being a half day, cause I got to stop seeing so many couples once I got home.” Kendall is overjoyed that the holiday is now over (and that all the candy is on sale). She doesn’t think that her opinion on Valentine’s Day will ever change, but who knows, maybe she’ll finally get a valentine and change her mind.
