Over summer break sophomore Alyssa Capdevila spent some of her time at a camp by the name of RIOT. This camp took place over five days in June from the 9th through the 13th. RIOT stands for Reaching Inside Out Tampa Bay where students take time out of their summer to help those in need. Students help with volunteering with service projects and acts of kindness to help the community as well as spreading the light of God throughout Tampa. Riot is a sleep-away camp and some of the fun activities the students would do is play indoor and outdoor games, theme nights, worship, and beach day baptisms. Alyssa was asked what she favored over her time spent at RIOT and said, “There weren’t any activities that were more superior than others because they were all exhilarating in diverse ways, but one activity that helped my relationship with god was the worship we did every night.”
The church that hosted this event was the church of Bayhope. Alyssa gained so many new friendships with fellow students who share a common interest in worshiping Jesus Christ. “With my time with Bayhope and RIOT I’ve learned it is important to spread kindness and be aware of others and what they may need but more importantly to spread the name of the Lord,” says Alyssa. She is looking forward to what projects next year’s Bayhope hosts.
