Sunlake high school has always had very high level athletes. One of the many athletes is sophomore Kayla Bays who plays in the ECNL. ECNL is the top-league in the nation for youth women’s soccer that allows players to showcase themselves in front of hundreds of college coaches while competing at a high level. This summer, Kayla and her team travelled to Seattle for playoffs and got to showcase themselves in front of many college coaches. Kayla’s team went through a lot during the season to even make it to nationals. With injuries and needing a certain amount of points, they managed to make it to Seattle. Kayla even says “(q)ualifying for nationals in Seattle was fun and exciting. It was great to qualify and represent our club.” Getting to Seattle was the first task, the second was to perform well. Kayla is very appreciative for” getting the opportunity to play in front of college coaches” from all across the country as she looks to potentially playing division I soccer.
Even though soccer is important, the other part of this trip was visiting Seattle. As one of the nation’s tourist spots, it is good to take a look at what each place has to offer. Kayla said “the city of Seattle is beautiful and unique. The weather is surprisingly nice compared to what you hear about it.” As the event closed out on June 28th, Kayla overall wished “the outcome was better but had a great experience”.
