Summer break means something different to every student. For some it’s a chance to exhale after a grueling school year. For others it’s a time of adventure. Whatever summer means to you, one thing is certain, during summer break, anything can happen. Freshman Reese Tomb spent two weeks of her summer at the Alessi Dance Studio’s first ever musical theater camp. The program was meant to teach students about the theater and how to run a show successfully. The camp performed, “Mean Girls Jr” and Reese was cast as Janis Ian.
“When I showed up for auditions, I instantly clicked with the other girls,” Reese said. “I had an amazing time, it was so fun. I was very shocked to be cast as Janis, but received full support from my fellow cast members.” The cast of the show was very small, there were only ten people. The show was a great bonding experience for the cast, they had an amazing time performing and hanging out together.
“My favorite part would probably be tied between performing the show and watching all sorts of musicals at lunch with my cast,” Reese said. “The performance was very exhilarating, and the different musicals brought my cast together in such a nice way.” Now, with only a week left of summer break, Reese is excited about the upcoming school year.
“Going into this year, I’m feeling a bit nervous, but overall very excited. I cannot wait to join the theater troupe here at Sunlake and make some new friends.”
