While Sunlake’s students are extremely busy during the school year, even during summer they never stop exploring the world around them. Senior Ray Gonzalez went to Portugal this summer with his mom, step dad, and grandmother, explaining “I have a ton of family there”. Ray elaborated that he visited both mainland Portugal and the island of Madeira, where he participated in a cart ride activity “where they take you down a mountain in a cart with wax on the ground so you go really fast”. Ray said “that was for sure my favorite part of the island”.
On the mainland, Ray attended “the fiestas, which were celebrations to celebrate the summer season”. He also went on a hike up a mountain which took over four hours! Sunlake’s adventurous students clearly continue exploring even when the bell rings on that final day of school.
