This summer, Seahawk students have attended various camps, activities, and trips. Whether it it be for sports, church, or just a trip with family, students have traveled far and wide. Travelling all the way to Dominican Republic, Senior Noah Sagnip experienced new people, landscapes, and communities.
Noah went to La Victoria, Dominican Republic to embark on a mission trip with his church, St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. He explains that his experience was beyond life changing and one of his favorite trips he has ever been on. Noah says, “This was my first mission trip ever and going outside the country was what made me want to do it.” Noah is very active in his church and community, always wanting to give back and benefit others. “We went to a very poor city of the country… we saw some locals that struggle day by day to make a living. It was a blessing to go there and make an attempt to change their lives.” Noah was working almost everyday, doing different levels of service. “I was either working construction one day or playing with preschool aged kids. Honestly, working with the kids was more tiring than working construction.” He was glad he made an impact in every way of service possible. “Aside from the service aspect, we had plenty of fun. We played a baseball game with the locals, went to church with them, and I always would find my little friend Randy and play some kind of game with him outside of our camp.” However, Noah’s favorite part of his mission trip was more than the service. “Seeing the look on the local kids’ faces when we would give them tennis balls was the highlight of my trip. It made me realize how much I need to appreciate the little things in my life. The whole trip was a big change in perspective to be thankful for every little thing we have because some people don’t even have what we have. No matter what it was, the locals made due and appreciated every little thing we provided them and it really impacted the way I think about those things today.” Noah finishes saying, “I changed lives, but my own life was changed as well.”
