This summer, junior, Jaina Grable, went on a family trip to Sanibel Island. One of the highlights of Jaina’s trip was “going to the beach and looking for shells.” Her and her mom shifted through the sand to find as many “pretty shells” as they could. It was a nice bonding bonding experience. Together they were able to find many cool looking shells of varying colors and shapes. A part that made her trip not so enjoyable was the heat. For Jaina “it felt like it was at least 100°F and there were mosquitos everywhere.” Sanibel Island had always been a summer vacation staple for the Grable family, but this tradition was interrupted by the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian. The hurricane caused damage to the island, altering the landscape and the lives of those who live there. This trip marked the first time Jaina and her family had returned to Sanibel since the hurricane. The most memorable part of the trip was being able to see “…how much had changed and the reconstruction of the island,” making the trip even more special.
