This past summer, freshman, Clara Cole got to experience being a counselor at the Hazelwood Stables Summer Camp, where she got to do what she loves most! Clara’s role at camp was to help teach lessons about the correct ways to handle horses and use gear. Most of the days she also got to feed the horses along with her trainer and go to the feed store. She exclaimed that, “My favorite part of being a camp counselor over the summer was getting to spend time with all of my friends and the horses. I love to help my trainer with some of the younger kids and share my love for horses with them.”
In addition to counseling summer camp, Clara worked hard this summer practicing and preparing for the Summers End Horse Show this upcoming September. Alongside her barn, there are many tasks that she must do before leaving to put together a remarkable showcase. “We decide on the tack that works best for the horse and rider, and then about a week before the show we will clean things like their saddles and bridles. We also bathe the horses, clean their tails, and clip and trim their hair. Some horses will even get their shoes done as well.” In the end, Clara always enjoys her time spent with her favorite animals. She shares that, “Horses are so unique and smart and such interesting animals to get to know. I absolutely love working with them as well as growing with them!”
