Just after graduating middle school, freshman Alexia Fleming jumped headfirst into high school life by joining the Sunlake cheer team over the summer. “I decided to join the cheer team because I used to cheer before in elementary school,” she explained. “I did competition cheer, and I wanted to get back into it, but I didn’t want to join Rusche cheer because they do TikTok dances. So, I wanted to join a good cheer team, and I am planning on joining Sunlake’s competitive cheer team.”
Cheer wasn’t the only passion Fleming decided to explore over her break. She also attended a week-long Bible camp. “It was a camp for Passion City Church… It’s basically just church; you get food, you have like seven hours of free time, and then you go to church again but at night and then basically repeat the day for that week,” she explained. “One of the days when we were supposed to go to the beach it decided to pour right before we had free time. It was kind of light, so one of my friends from Land O’ decided to go dance in the rain. While we were out there, we said ‘It’s not that bad out, let’s go to the beach!’ So, we went in the water even though we technically didn’t have permission.”
