Painting a parking spot is an important tradition at Sunlake because it is one that allows the Seniors to show off their interests and artistic abilities, create an art piece that encapsulates their year, and congratulates them on finally becoming a Senior. Senior Amelia Sitoy spoke on how her, “culture contributed to the inspiration behind my spot,” and how she, “wanted it to be unique and different from any other spot I saw.” She added how painting the parking spots was, ” a great social event; somewhere I was able to hang out with friends. It was the start to the Class of 2025’s last hoorah,” detailing why she heavily enjoyed participating in the tradition. As an artistic person Amelia loved the painting aspect; “painting has always been soothing to me, so I felt very in my comfort zone when creating my spot.” “It was such an enjoyable experience, and purely for fun. It was a way all the Seniors got to connect before our final year together,” Amelia voiced when going more in depth about the activity. Amelia did not end up completing her spot but was thrilled at what she ended up with, and she thinks Seniors getting to create their own personal parking spot should continue to be a tradition Sunlake keeps alive.
