Freshman Orientation is a process that helps new students to prepare for their first year in high school. Here at Sunlake High School, clubs go to freshman orientation to be able to recruit new students and help them through the process of being new to high school. There are many different clubs that you can join when you are in high school, for example, FBLA. One of the best qualities of FBLA is that even without realizing it, it helps students develop skills in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Arbina Adhikari was at Freshman Orientation as the president of FBLA club, she held the FBLA’s club booth and had many different experiences. For example, when meeting new people, she said, “For me, Freshman Orientation was a great experience to become familiar with our incoming freshman.” This in some cases could be difficult for people, but Arbina really enjoyed interacting with all kinds of different people, she explained to many students and parents what Sunlake is and what opportunities Sunlake and the club offer. Arbina said, “I enjoyed interacting with various sorts of people and helping them gain a better understanding of what Sunlake is and all the opportunities we offer.” Besides meeting new people, clubs need to recruit members, and that is something Arbina was really excited about as well. She mentioned, “Overall, Freshman Orientation was VERY successful to say the least. Our primary goal was to increase our membership size and we did just that. We managed to more than double the number of members with a total number count coming in at around 90 members this year.” This was a really exciting experience for Arbina and she was always really happy to get to meet all these new people and to experience all this things at Freshman Orientation.
