Trick or Treat around the Track is a Sunlake tradition, where representatives from school clubs show up in fun costumes and hand out candy to kids around the track. Evelyn Ketelsen, Junior; dressed in a blow-up Patrick the Starfish costume for the event, which she participated in as a Book Club officer. She, “enjoyed Trick around the Track because it was a fun experience and I was able to help out kids and families.” From this, Evelyn got volunteer hours while creating fun memories bonding with the kids, making the tradition one she loved being apart of. She believes, “it’s important because it gives kids opportunities to enjoy Trick or Treating while also giving student volunteering events.” The smiles she got from the kids when they saw her costume and when she gave them candy was reason enough to show her why the event was worth participating in, and while in the outfit, “so many kids came up to me and asked for pictures and high fives… it was so cute.” This was Evelyn’s third year participating in Trick or Treat around the Track, and she is excited to keep the tradition alive next year as well. Evelyn believes the event is versatile and enjoyable, as it brings a smile to everyone’s faces: the kids, the parents, and the students running it.
