Veterans Day is a national holiday in the United States. The holiday is celebrated annually on November 11th and is dedicated to honoring the sacrifices and contributions of all veterans who have served this country. Most people honor this holiday through traditions or by reflecting on its significance. One of the people who celebrate this holiday is Junior Larissa Metzger at Sunlake High School. Larissa’s dad served in the Marine Corps and worked in the US Embassy which makes the holiday hold a very special meaning to her, as it honors her dad’s service. Larissa says this holiday is special because, “it is a time to honor and thank all of the people who have served, remember their sacrifices, and show appreciation for them.” To celebrate this day Larissa and her family have a tradition to go to the beach every year. Her family spends the day at the beach relaxing and reflecting on her dad and others’ service. When asked what her favorite part of the tradition is she said, “I love spending time with my family and taking the time to remember people’s sacrifices for this country.” For Larissa, Veterans Day is not just about her family’s tradition but also about showing appreciation and gratitude to those who have served.
