On February 24th, the Sunlake High School color guard team held rehearsals. Nyaliece Bradshaw, a senior, decided to tell us all about it! The rehearsals usually start after school or in the evening and they last about two or four hours, it is normally three or five times during the week while the season is happening. They normally practice in Sunlake’s gym on their performance tarp, with all the members in color guard placed in their formation. For

equipment they use flags, rifles, sabres, practice poles, and sometimes props that they use during the shows. During rehearsals, “We normally start with reviewing choreography, learning new parts of the show, and we do full run-throughs. That is typically how we warm up.” Nyaliece stated. Now, one question that was asked the most was how they do teamwork due to the fact it’s a lot of tossing and turns during the shows, to which Nyaliece replied with, “Well since we all have individual parts, our main focus on teamwork is making sure we look synchronized. We also work on timing, and spacing. We do also practice individual practice while rehearsals go on, and we all work on tosses some of us find difficult or choreography on their own to improve skills.” Their goals that they have when practicing is to improve their technique, clean the choreography, and prepare the show for competitions. They are mainly focused on everyone’s dance technique, their spins, tosses, timing, and their body control. Their instructor watches them and gives them corrections and demonstrations, also individual advice to make sure everyone is on the same boat. Other than that, the color guard team works very hard to get where they are, and they spend a lot of time practicing. Thank you Nyaliece for sharing, and a big shout out to the color guard team for their commitment.
