Every year during homecoming spirit week, sunlake puts out so many fun events. One of them being powderpuff! At the annual powderpuff game during homecoming spirit week at Sunlake high school senior Declan Heuman participated in the boys cheer and half time performance. For Declan, powderpuff is not just a high school event, its like a tradition for him and a source of unforgettable memories. As a senior Declan reflects on 4 years of participation and he enjoys it so much. “I love participating every year, and each time has been an amazing experience.”
Powderpuff is so enjoyable for the participants and even the ones watching. “Powderpuff has always been one of the best events of high school”. Declan also really enjoyed practices, he always looked forward to them after the school day. He liked to spend time with his friends and he enjoyed creating new bonds through the teamwork.

The preparation for powderpuff is never a small thing. Declan and his teammates dedicated countless hours to perfect there routine.
“to prepare, we practiced twice a week for two hours, focusing on perfecting our dance”. “on the day of powderpuff, we arrived at school around 2:00 to make sure we were fully ready”. This commitment truly highlights the dedication that Declan and his team had, In the end they were rewarded for it
when asked about his favorite part of powderpuff he said “My favorite part has always been the dance itself. the big moment of the night! but I also loved the sideline cheers and the energy of th crowd”. The dance is a showcase of what they have worked so hard on, it brings smiles and laughter to all the people participating and watching. The sideline cheers shows the energy of each team trying to excite the crowd in the bleachers.
Winning first place this year was the perfect way to end of Declans powderpuff memories. “winning first place was such a relief because it proved all of our effort had paid off.” It was a moment to celebrate there hard work and dedication as all the seniors get up to cheer for there win. As Declan prepares to graduate, he cant help but feel sad at leaving powderpuff in high school. “i am really going to miss powderpuff, and if i could relive high school, I would take this part in it every single year without a doubt.”
