Sunlake Boys Soccer Team Beats the East Lake Eagles

Gabriela Carrioni, Staffer

Sunlake High school’s boys soccer team has already begun the season strong with several preseason, and regular season wins. This week in particular, the Seahawks took on the East Lake eagles in a close game, but still came out on top with a score of 1-0. Sophomore Matias Gonzalez was a swing player his freshman year, and moved up to varsity in his second year of playing high school soccer. The boys’ game against East Lake was Matias’ first game after returning from his knee injury before the season. Matias says that the East Lake game proved that “recovering from my injury has been hard and gaining confidence on the field has been difficult, but slowly everything is coming back.” When asked about playing soccer for Sunlake, he said “high school soccer is fun” and “the main thing that made me participate is the players and coaches on the team.” Competition for soccer in the district this year is tough. Matias says that “the mentality to make sure every team in the area is beat has to be better than last year.” If Matias could send a message to people about the boys soccer team, he would say “Sunlake going all the way.”
