Sunlake students were surprised to see Dominic Italiano’s homecoming proposal to his girlfriend, Sofia Sierra, going viral on TikTok, Instagram, and landing on EPSN.

Dominic and Sofia have known each other for a year and they started dating at the start of September. Sofia is a part of Sunlake’s varsity volleyball team and Dominic went to go watch and support her during her volleyball game. Sunlake won and Sofia was elated. She had played really well and was feeling the high that comes from being successful in a sport. She was not suspecting what would happen in next.

With the help of a bunch of close friends, Dominic was preparing to surprise Sofia with an epic gesture. He explains, “I waited until after the volleyball game. I got outside and I acted like I was just going to take a normal picture with her (Sofia), but instead I got my friends to put signs behind her. I put my hand behind my back and my friend handed me some flowers. That’s when she figured out that I was asking her to homecoming.” As seen in the video, Sofia was so shocked that her jaw dropped. Dominic recounts that “…she was ecstatic. She wasn’t expecting me to ask her the way that I did.” When asked why he wanted to be Sofia’s date at homecoming, Dominic declared that “…she’s amazing.”

The video that was taken of the proposal was posted on Tiktok and Instagram, and it spread like wildfire. Dominic reveals that “…ESPN followed me on Instagram and I followed them back. They texted me, posting me on their page.” This outcome was unforeseen, but Dominic expressed that he was excited that his proposal “…had reached such a big platform.”
