This week in the Biology class of Sunlake teacher Ms. Janess, students finished up a hands-on osmosis lab involving eggs. Her students began cleaning up the aftermath of the lab, as well as completing their remaining paperwork. From the perspective of Ms. Janess, she said, “The endgame was hectic.” Because she was absent during a day of the lab, she believed students could have possibly made some errors. Although the setup of this said lab was easy and convincing, the eggs and the substances that they were placed in made the lab very messy, leading to the chaos that was mentioned. Overall she said that the lab was, “Good and rewarding as an overall experience. But the cleanup was terrible with the corn syrup and the leftover eggs.”

A couple of days after the osmosis lab came Halloween, and Ms. Janess certainly showed her excitement to her students throughout that day by dressing up as a “Biology Barbie.” On Halloween day, she dressed up in all pink and gave students a fun time watching her act as a Biology Barbie. She also gave students candy, allowing them to have an opportunity to relax as they talked with their classmates. Ms. Janess said that, “It was not planned, and it was absolutely fun to be silly and act like a kid.” Throughout the different classes she observed the reactions of the students and mentioned that, “Most of them were favorable and positive, and uplifting, and it seemed to be a much needed break. Everyone was receptive to it and it was a very happy moment for the students.”
