Sunlake has a variety of highly talented students who get signed to colleges each year because of their amazing athletic abilities. During this year, there was a signing ceremony in which an all-female group of Seahawk-superstars got signed to different colleges for the sports of volleyball, soccer, and golf. Senior Elanah Hardeen, who got signed as a member of Sunlake’s volleyball team stated, “getting signed was so relieving because I have been working toward this for the last 10 years as one of my major goals, and now I don’t have to stress about it anymore and can instead just look forward to college volleyball.” Elanah decided to sign to Young Harris College in Georgia as it ticked many of the boxes for what she wanted in a dream school; she said,”it is in the mountains with amazing weather and the whole campus is very beautiful especially during the fall.”
Elanah went on to speak about how much volleyball has effected her life in various positive ways, expressing, “volleyball has helped me connect to so many people and it gives me an outlet to get all my energy out and take my mind off all the stress I have from school.” She really connected with the sport as a safe place for her where she could let loose and have fun and was beyond happy when she got signed and could keep playing the sport she adores so much in college. Elanah voiced how proud she was of every other girl up there with her during the signing event; their years of devotion to their sports finally getting recognized and rewarded. The signing was a fulfilling experience where tons of hard work finally paid off for all the Sunlake athletes, and was an event that truly showed “…the girl power of Sunlake.”
