Sophomore Adam Williams has a lot to be thankful for. He loves Thanksgiving and the holiday feeling. He explains, “Every year my family meets up at one of my grandparents houses and we talk and eat and laugh together.” This year, Adam says, “…we met up at my mom’s parents house. Both sets of my grandparents, my aunt and uncle and all my cousins along with my great aunts and uncles were all there. It was 17 people in total. We all sat in different areas to fit everyone, groups switching around so that we could all talk.”
“We have a lot of Thanksgiving traditions, a lot of them having to do with food. Everyone has specific dishes that they make. My grandmas take turns making the turkey. This year, my grandma on my mom’s side made a turkey and my grandma on my dad’s side made a ham. Since my mom’s mom was hosting, she made the most sides. She made stuffing, sweet potato soufflé, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. My grandma on my dad’s side brought a squash casserole. My mom makes pies every year for us to eat as well. We have pecan and pumpkin pie. The food is always delicious.” Adam tells us that another tradition his family has is discussing what they are grateful for. “Every year my family and I talk about what we’re thankful for. I’m sure this most families do this, but we do it as well. This year, I was thankful for my family, friends and cats, like always. I was thankful for my swim team and how much I’ve been able to improve this season. And I was also thankful for the food, which I was so excited to eat.”
For a part of Thanksgiving, the boys were busy watching the football game and talking about fantasy football drafts. “We watched the Packers vs Lions game and we were talking about the players we had drafted on our teams. We were watching who was on our teams and who was doing well and who wasn’t, talking about who we should and shouldn’t start. It’s fun for all us boys to come together and watch the game. It’s also funny to see all the older guys getting riled up.”
All and all, Adam had a great day. “I’m thankful my Thanksgiving could be so awesome,” he says, a smile on his face.
