“Let’s go Seahawks, Let’s go! Let’s go Seahawks, Let’s go!” That the only thing that people can hear in the stadium. The only thing they can feel is the rattling of the metal bleachers from the student section’s stomping. The only thing they can see is the wave of students rushing onto the field to congratulate the Sunlake Boys Soccer team for winning State Finals. The blood, sweat, and tears that was put into this team could be seen in the way they fought for that victory. Sophomore Easton Gerhart attended the game and he had nothing but positive things to say about them. Riding with them on the spirit bus, he said that the “vibe on the bus was energetic. We were all ready to go support during the final four and state finals. Music was playing in the bathroom and people were just talking it up. From what I could see, the players were confident that they were going to perform well. A little nerve-racking for everyone, but they all had their pregame rituals ready!” When they had got to the stadium, the energy was just booming. Everyone couldn’t wait to see the boys play and hopefully defeat the other team. When asked about how the game had been going, Easton answered that “It was really head to head the whole time. The other team scored the first point, but we didn’t lose hope. We kept going back to back until we did PK’s, where each goalie tries to block the opposing team’s shot. We blocked each and every one until the other team didn’t and we won.” When that final ball hit the back of the net, time had just stood still. The boys had actually done it. “We all celebrated together, taking photos of the trophy and then on the way home we all got food together and it was just a great experience overall. We were so happy to be there. It felt like family.” And after a long day, everyone took a good and long victory nap. Because that’s what it means to be a Sunlake Champion.
