Junior Patrick McCamic is one of our very talented and skillful point guards on the varsity basketball team at Sunlake. When asked about a key moment in one of his games that he felt had the biggest impact on the final outcome of the game was, Patrick stated, “…the first game of districts against Land O’ Lakes, my coach had told me to lock in and solidify myself for next year and prove that I can play especially at the point position. Coach said I gave the game a flow that brought rhythm and helped us win.” The team has maintained focus on composure on the court in moments of pressure and tight competition. This year especially, they came together in the second half of the Land O’ Lakes game, and beat them by 20 points. Patrick stated, “During this game, there were some standout performances from my teammates that deserve recognition and praise. Manny Goodman was running the floor like he should, and Nelson Marshall was shooting out of his mind.” As an individual player, Patrick’s most significant contribution to the team’s success in this game was getting the flow going and calling the teams sets to get the ball. One of his pre-game rituals is listening to music and praying. These two things get Patrick in the right headspace before the game and help him to have more motivation and enthusiasm. All in all, Patrick McCamic has come a very long way from when he first started playing high school basketball his freshman year. His three years of playing school ball, he did not get to play a lot, but during this season he has grown tremendously from his injury that happened in the summer. He has grown not only as a player, but also as a person.
