Junior Jonah Romero is currently a player on Sunlake’s boys tennis team. They recently had an intense match against Wesley Chapel High School. He and his partner, junior Jack Stryker, won a doubles match 8 games to 1. Jonah chose to join the tennis team as a way to “…make new friends, improve my skills in tennis, expand the variety of sports I play, and hopefully play tennis at a collegiate level.” During his matches a mix of emotions and thoughts went through his head. He is “…sometimes nervous but I just try to stay calm and focus on winning the point, whether or not my opponent has the advantage.” He remained very focused and determined during the tennis season, as he wanted to further the skills he had in the sport. For anyone interested in joining Sunlake’s tennis team in the future, Jonah mentioned to “…stay motivated to practice on the off season as well as the preseason while developing connections with the coach and people who are on the team.” Building a good relationship with coaches and teammates is important for success and growth. Jonah had a great year on the tennis team and is excited to keep on pursuing and getting better at the sport.
