Sports are a special part of any school, and not only for the school itself, but also for the athletes that bring us so much pride. National Signing Day is a day to not only watch our student athletes take the next steps in their athletic careers, but also to celebrate how far they’ve come in life and how far they are bound to go.
Kristy More; Senior, is one of the many athletes that have chosen to play their sport in college. Kristy is a wrestler and found the University of Sioux Falls, when looking up good women’s wrestling programs. Kristy has the intention of continuing with wrestling while she studies U.S History secondary education, which is something she has developed a passion for in her time here at Sunlake. Kristy “loves the idea of teaching others,” and intends to continue with that beyond college as she wants to be a U.S History teacher and wrestling coach, combining the two things she is most passionate about. As far as her sport goes, Kristy wants to try for the Olympics and be a national placer or champ in wrestling. Even if college is just a few short steps away for Kristy, the experiences she has had in high school are sure to influence not only how she takes on college, but how she takes on life and its challenges in general.
Over the last four years, Kristy has learned that, “it doesn’t matter what others think of you, the only thing that matters is how you choose to live and what you think of yourself,” which is advice many of us should listen to. This simply teaches us that who we are and how we express ourselves is more important than how others perceive us to be. Kristy personally believes that, “your work ethic, your will, your drive, is what keeps you going, even when the times seem tough,” encouraging not only herself but the people around her to keep pushing and things will work out. All throughout life, challenges will be handed to us and it’s up to us to have the drive and determination to continue and face those obstacles head on, and Kristy is a perfect example of someone that strives for greatness, no matter the challenge.
