Zoey Fry, a senior at Sunlake High School, had an unforgettable time at her last Butter Bowl, making memories with her friends that she will cherish forever. Over the course of her four years in high school, Zoey had attended every Butter Bowl, each one filled with excitement, school spirit, and camaraderie. As a football fan who grew up in a household that loved the sport, Zoey was especially eager to support her school team during this highly anticipated event.
Before the big game, Zoey went about her usual school day, attending classes and running errands around the house. In preparation for the game, she dressed in an all-black outfit to match the “Blackout” theme of the event. Once ready, she and most of her friends gathered at one of their houses to hang out and get hyped for the Sunlake vs. Land O’ Lakes rivalry match. This game wasn’t just about football—it was about tradition, school pride, and the joy of being surrounded by friends.
Upon arriving at the stadium, Zoey and her friends headed straight to the stands, eager to capture the moment with some fun group pictures before the action began. The energy in the stadium was electric, with students, alumni, and families all coming together to cheer on their teams. As the game kicked off, the noise from the stands was deafening. Zoey couldn’t help but smile as she joined her friends in chanting and cheering, feeling the rush of adrenaline from the crowd. “I loved chanting from the stands with all my friends and getting so loud and excited,” she said, reflecting on the experience.
Although Zoey was firmly rooting for Sunlake, the rivalry with Land O’ Lakes made the game even more exciting. Zoey’s and many of her friends grew up with students from the opposing school, which added a personal touch to the rivalry. During halftime, Zoey took the opportunity to reconnect with a few old friends she hadn’t seen in a while, sharing laughs and catching up on each other’s lives. “I loved catching up with some old friends that I don’t get to go to school with anymore,” Zoey said, highlighting how these moments of reunion made the night even more special.
After halftime, the game resumed, and the tension in the stands grew. However, as the game went on, it became clear that Land O’ Lakes was pulling ahead, and the Sunlake team was struggling to catch up. With the other team leading by a large margin, many fans began to trickle out of the stadium. Ultimately, Land O’ Lakes triumphed, securing the 2025 Butter Bowl with a final score of 27-7.
Even though the Sunlake team didn’t come out victorious, Zoey didn’t let the outcome dampen her spirits. She and her friends headed to Glory Days, one of their favorite restaurants, to wind down the night with a delicious dinner and more laughter. “Even though we didn’t win, I had such a great time with all my friends, and I was so happy to experience my last Butter Bowl with all of them,” Zoey shared, emphasizing how the memories made with her close-knit friend group were far more important than the final score.
Zoey’s last Butter Bowl was a perfect mix of excitement, nostalgia, and friendship, marking the end of an era in her high school life. While the game may have been the highlight of the night, it was the people she spent it with—and the memories they created—that made it truly unforgettable.
