Sunlakes varsity Volleyball team is soaring for the stars. On Wednesday, October 29th, Sunlake Volleyball team played against East Lake High School in Regional Finals for States Final Four. After 5 hard matches, the Sunlake Seahawks won their rightful spot, a one way ticket to Polk State College for the State Final Four, where they play as Semi-finalist, taking one more step closer to the Championships. This year, Sofia Sierra is playing on the team, a senior who was really excited to win. She explains that in previous games they had played East Lake High School, and unfortunately they didn’t win, so this game came came with a little extra motivation and a grander reward. In her words about what she felt after winning she says, “Amazing, because we lost to them in 5 before, and I am just glad that we got our get back.”

Sofia had been playing volleyball since the ripe age of 8, working hard to make her way up the board, and growing her talents, which she has many of. She has played every position in a game, from forward to setter, which is the position she currently plays. She is able to stay focused on the game under high pressure by tuning out the noise and focusing on her space, and enjoying her favorite part of the game, the passing of the ball between teams. She says her love for volleyball comes from “this sport bringing me joy, its very stress relieving for me, and I am just very passionate about it!” When asked about the team and her relationship with them she says that she is friends with “Every single person” on the team, she also elaborates on what it feels like to be on that team by saying, “It feel great, I feel accomplished and I feel confident!” Yet, as all teams, they have a few things to work on, the thing that stands out the most is their consistency of energy levels during the game, but she believes that they did a great job focusing on their goals. She finishes the interview expressing her passion for Volleyball.
