Families, students, and community members gathered for this year’s annual Trick-or-Treat Around the Track, a beloved school tradition that turns the athletic field into a festive Halloween celebration. The event invited children from the community to walk around the school’s track, stopping at decorated booths and tents hosted by various school clubs, sports teams, and student organizations, all eager to hand out candy, play games, and spread Halloween cheer. Laughter and excitement filled the air as students in costumes ranging from superheroes to spooky creatures passed out handfuls of candy to eager trick-or-treaters. This event has quickly become a highlight of the fall season, offering a fun, safe, and inclusive space for families while also giving students an opportunity to connect with their community. Many volunteers said the event gave them a new appreciation for the joy that comes from giving back.
One of those volunteers, Jeremiah Limehouse, a member of the Black Student Union, said that although he initially signed up for extra credit, he quickly realized the event was about much more than that. “I was able to interact with people outside of school and in our community,” he said. “It was a fun way to connect with everyone.”
For Limehouse, the best part of the event was seeing the excitement in the children’s faces as they approached his table. “When I was telling all the kids that they could grab as much candy as they wanted, I saw big smiles on their faces,” he said. “Seeing their reactions definitely makes it worth doing.”
Events like these, Limehouse said, show how something as simple as candy and conversation can bring people together. “I’m looking forward to it next year, it’s gonna be bigger and better.”
With each passing year, Trick-or-Treat Around the Track continues to grow, uniting the school, its students, and the surrounding community in a celebration that blends fun, service, and school spirit.
