Warm food. Thanksgiving plates. Laughers of joy everywhere in the room. That’s what Friendsgiving brings. For Avery Nguyen, it was a moment of connection and belonging. “It makes me feel more apart of the yearbook group. Whenever Mr. Webster does these get together type things like ‘bring your own potluck,’ it kind of gives us all a break from the all the work we’ve been putting into the yearbook and gives us a moment to appreciate the fact that we’re here” Avery said. Sharing food with others is known to bring people closer together, and to be able to experience this moment for the first time really made Avery think about how grateful she was to be apart of the yearbook community. The members of year were given the option to create a dish to bring to the potluck, but unfortunately for Avery, things didn’t turn out exactly how she wanted it to. I made this like croissant ting. It was really easy to make; you cut up cubes of brie cheese and then you put it into little croissant cups and I put in fake preserves which was really good. But I never brought it, I ended up bringing it to school the next day. But it was really unfortunate that I couldn’t bring it in on Friendsgiving.” It’s alright though, everyone loved the dish anyway! Avery’s favorite take away from Friendsgiving was the popcorn chicken from Publix and blueberry muffins. When asked what her favorite food was, she laughed before answering, “I’m a big fan of the Publix’s popcorn chicken, and I also love mac and cheese. But also, I don’t remember exactly who made this, but I remember the blueberry muffins were really good. They looked like they were homemade and they were really soft. It was perfect. Yeah, those were my favorite.” So if you ever want to find your way into Avery’s heart, bring popcorn chicken and homemade muffins!
