Picture day at Sunlake was mixture of excitement and last minute outfit fixes. For sophomore Samuel Edwards, the day was more than just standing in front of a camera, it was a moment to capture how much he’s grown since last year. Samuel chose a simple, clean button-up shirt for his photo. “I wanted something that looked neat in photos without being too flashy,” he explained. A classic outfit, he said, would “age well” when he looks back years later. He also tried something new with his hair, adding braids for a slightly more mature look as he settles into his sophomore year. When he finally saw his photo, Samuel was surprised. “It turned out better than I expected,” he admitted. Usually posed photos feel awkward for him, but this one looked natural enough to make him breathe a little easier. Still, if he could go back, he’d make a few adjustments. “I wish I’d known how bright the lights would be,” he said. “And honestly, how bad the picture is at this school. I also wish I’d gotten a haircut.” Around him, picture day energy was loud and unpredictable. “It felt chaotic but fun,” Samuel says.

While some students where stressing over their looks, others treated the day like a social event. The line was full of laughter, socializing, and people fixing each other’s outfits at the last minute. Now that he’s a sophomore, Samuel feels more confident. “Freshman year felt like figuring everything out,” he said, “but now I understand the routines.” When he looks back at this year’s photo in the future, Samuel hopes he’ll feel proud and reminded of a year filled with growth, confidence, and moments that made him who he is.
