The Sunlake Girls soccer team has been very successful the past few years, but triumphs don’t come without setbacks. The match against Riverview wasn’t what the team had hoped for as it ended with a loss of 0-1. However, by learning from losses and mistakes, it can improve future results. Jordin Lewis is a Junior that plays for the varsity soccer team as a center back. Center backs are defenders, she enjoys that she can see the entire field while playing. Responding to how this game went, she stated, “The game against Riverview was rough and unlucky; it could have gone either way. Moving forward, if we start off strong, we will continue to win.” By starting with 100% effort, they will continue to grow and succeed throughout the season and in life.
There were some other factors that may have contributed to a more difficult game, such as cold weather. Playing outdoor sports is tough as it is, but living in Florida gets athletes conditioned to hotter temperatures. Recently there was a cold front that had the team playing in very cold weather (Florida Standard). Jordin stated that, “Colder weather makes it harder to prepare for the game in terms of warming up and staying warm, but it’s a lot better than playing in the heat.” Cool weather can impact lung capacity, lead to more sickness, and tenser muscles.
Jordin Lewis has been on the team for two years and has had fun so far. She is looking forward to more games and district titles. A statement on her experience on the soccer team is, “My favorite part of being on the soccer team is getting another chance to do something I love with new people.” The involvement of being on the soccer team is an integral part of Jordin’s life and influences her experience in high school. Even when she experiences losses, it helps her grow and gain familiarity of how to continue through failures.
