Our Girls Basketball Teams here at Sunlake are filled with many talented young women who play and train hard to build up a good reputation for themselves and our school. During a game they played on the 18th, I was able to interview Dawn Figueroa about her experience with basketball and her junior varsity team.
Dawn went into detail about her team’s preparations before each game. “Before the games, me and my team get our shoes on and then we circle up together and stretch our bodies. We basically do everything together from mobility stretches to a prayer right before jump ball.” The excitement of going into the first game of the season is something Dawn says she always looks forward to. “Playing with my new teammates and just doing what I love brings a lot of happiness.” For anyone else interested in joining basketball, Dawn said to focus on building a strong and powerful mindset. She stated that “at the end of the day it’s not about muscle but about having the mental ability to keep going no matter how many points you have.” Developing a well-built mindset would not only help on the court but can also benefit your personal life outside of sports.
All team members give their all to score for our school. As of writing this, future Girl’s basketball games are the main varsity team playing against St. Pete on December 5th, and both varsity and junior varsity teams will be present playing against Springstead on the 11th.

While fans are filling the room before the game starts, our team is practicing dribbles and throws. (Isaiah Cabrera)
