Preseason at Sunlake was a mixture between nerves, excitement, and the familiar rush of stepping back onto the field. For Junior Gwyneth Taylor, the start of the soccer season wasn’t just warm ups and drills, but it was also a moment for growth and reconnecting with teammates, and it set the tone for the months ahead. “Going into preseason I was a little nervous but so excited,” she explained. For her, preseason is more than preparation and it’s a chance to see exactly where the team stands before the real games begin.

With the new season in this year, she set her own personal goals. She hopes to become the best player she can be, making plays happen, connecting passes, and helping her teammates with strong assists. Practice has mostly been centered around scrimmages and set plays. It is a routine she values because it’s very similar to the pace and pressure of real matches. “It’s a great way to get game-like practice in,” she said. Preseason also revealed what she wants to improve. Learning how to play comfortably together stood out as an important focus. “Preseason showed us how to play together as a team, and as we transition to regular season we’ll be more comfortable with each other,” she explained. Motivation, she added, comes from the bond the team shares. “To stay motivated we all encourage each other.” What she’s most excited for this season is simple, winning games and spending time with her teammates. Their strengths, hard work, talent, and a positive mindset have already shown in preseason matches. “Our team did good in the preseason games,” she said proudly. Stepping back onto the field after the offseason felt natural. Many teammates trained with their club teams, keeping skills sharp. “It was really fun,” she said. “We were prepared.” As the regular season approaches, she looks ahead with confidence and growth, and ready make this year one to remember.
