Game night at Sunlake high school was filled energy and intensity of competition. For the girls basketball team, the December 9th match was not just another game on the schedule, it was a chance to test their chemistry and performance under pressure. For junior Audrina Amador, the night was both exciting and full of personal growth. “Going into the game I felt nervous but also really excited,” she said. “I wanted to do well for my team, and even though I was a little anxious, I reminded myself to stay confident and trust the work I had put in during practice.” As the game unfolded, teamwork became more important. The communication on defense and trust on offense allowed the team to remain steady, even during high pressure moments. “The most important part of the game was our teamwork,” she explained. “When we communicated on defense and trusted each other on offense, we played better and stayed more composed, especially during stressful moments.” Audrina not only took pride on the outcome, but also in her mindset throughout the game. Keeping a positive attitude and giving effort stood out as a personal accomplishment. “One thing I was really proud of was my effort and attitude,” she said. “I stayed positive, played hard, and didn’t give up even when things got challenging.” Support her from teammates played an important role in the team’s performance. They constantly encouraged each other on and off the court, and helped everyone stay focused. “We supported one another, which helped us stay motivated the entire game,” she said. That connection is something she values deeply and sees as a strength moving foward. Preparation also played an important role in her performance. Staying locked in during practice, getting enough rest, and mentally preparing to stay calm helped her go into the game with confidence. “I reminded myself that my role was to help the team in any way I could,” she explained. Basketball, she shared, is more than just a sport. It’s a place where she feels motivated and confident. “Basketball means a lot to me because it’s something I truly love,” she said. Through the game, she has learned responsibility, discipline, and how to handle pressure. Those lessons have helped her grow both on and off the court.
