The Sunlake girls soccer team earned an important victory against Indian Rocks Christian on December 10th, showing growth, teamwork, and determination as the season continues. Going into the game, Sunlake had a clear mindset and strong energy. “Our team’s mindset is always to come out to win and perform at our very best,” said sophomore Camila Galindez. “We came in with positive minds and ready to win, and we always have fun while doing it.”
Despite the confidence, the game presented challenges. One of the biggest obstacles was team chemistry. According to Galindez, “Our biggest challenge was coming together as a team. We come from many different teams and environments.” As the match went on, however, the players began to adjust to one another, ultimately uniting on the field and securing the win.
Sunlake’s momentum was strong from the start, but Galindez pointed out that scoring the first goal made a noticeable difference. “Once we got our first goal in the game, I think our intensity got stronger and we started playing more as a team,” she said. That shift helped Sunlake control the pace of the game and build confidence.
As the match progressed, the team refined its strategy. Rather than focusing only on the scoreboard, Sunlake emphasized fundamentals. “We adjusted our strategy to not just get the win, but focus on the little details like good passing and better touches,” she explained, noting that these details matter most against stronger opponents.
Communication was another key factor in the win. “It always plays a major role into understanding how each of us play,” Galindez said. When Indian Rocks Christian scored a goal, it pushed Sunlake to sharpen its focus. “The other team was able to score one goal, which shifted our team to really focus and pay attention to our mistakes,” she said. Sunlake responded by fixing those mistakes and scoring additional goals.
One of Galindez’s proudest moments came when she scored herself. “It was a really good feeling and a proud moment,” she said, adding that it helped drive momentum for the rest of the game. Overall, the match reflected Sunlake’s hard work in practice and helped the team move up in rankings as they aim to finish the season strong.
