Senior Lamai Robinson delivered an impressive performance at this year’s weightlifting conference meet, making the most of a milestone moment in her athletic career. A member of the varsity cheer, competition cheer, and varsity weightlifting teams, Robinson entered the meet determined to perform her best while fully appreciating her time with her teammates.
Going into the competition, Robinson’s main focus was improving her total by hitting a personal record in the clean and jerk. Reaching 135 pounds had been a long-standing goal, and she came prepared to challenge herself on the platform.
Her hard work paid off. Robinson went a perfect 6-for-6 on her lifts and earned third place in Traditional for her weight class. One of the most memorable moments of the meet came after her second successful lift, when her coach encouraged her to jump weight. Trusting both her training and her instincts, Lamai took the challenge—earning a new PR and securing her spot on the podium.
This meet carried extra significance for Lamai, as it was not only her final conference competition, but also her first. Last season, her schedule conflicted with All-Star cheer, making this year’s meet a “special and rewarding experience.”
Reflecting on her journey, Lamai emphasized the importance of confidence. “Strength matters, but trusting yourself and believing in your lifts is what makes the biggest difference,” she said, offering advice to underclassmen preparing for high-level competitions.
Lamai also credited Coach Hodros for the team’s success. “He’s the best coach I’ve ever had,” she shared. “He prepared us to win and to lift confidently.” Under his guidance, Sunlake finished first place in both Olympic and Traditional, capping off a standout conference meet for the team.
