Balancing school, athletics, and work isn’t easy, but for Alfonso Alfaro; Senior, it’s apart of everyday life. This past week was filled with responsibilities that tested his time management and dedication. “It’s really challenging to go between work and wrestling practice, and sometimes I have to cut my hours from work,” He continues, “But going between the two is what motivates me to make money while also staying disciplined with my sport.” One of the most memorable moments of his week was the senior night for the wrestling team. During senior night, each wrestler competed one on one in their individual weight class. “It was pretty fun, I haven’t wrestled in two months, so it felt good to go back after being sick,” Alfonso said. Since he was sick prior to the tournament, he wasn’t able to do any weight cuts. “I had to spend 2 days of hardcore training in order to cut down my weight to 157,” He explained.

Despite the physical challenges, the outcome of the match came as a surprise. The opposing team was known for having good wrestlers, including state placers. “We were going in expecting a hard challenge,” He said, “But unexpectedly we won!” Alfonso was also proud of his own performance, winning his match by pinning his opponent in the second period. The match showed him how far he could push himself. Outside of wrestling, he explained how balancing schoolwork, practice and work was the busiest part of his week. Still, he found motivation in managing these responsibilities. Moving forward, he hopes to put more of his time into wrestling while continuing to grow as an athlete and an individual.
