The Sunlake High School girls varsity basketball team delivered a confident performance at their home game against Pasco High School, showcasing strong teamwork, communication, and composure from start to finish.
According to player Dawn Figueroa; Junior, the team’s mindset heading into the game played a major role in their success. “Our mindset going in was to always stay connected and trust each other,” Dawn said. “We wanted to play with poise, have a patient mindset, and always communicate.” That focus was evident throughout the game, as Sunlake maintained control and consistency on both ends of the court.
Unlike games that swing momentum back and forth, this matchup saw Sunlake leading for the entirety of the contest. While there was no single turning point, the team’s steady play and ability to stay composed allowed them to keep Pasco at bay and execute their game plan effectively.

The home crowd also played a significant role in energizing the team. “The crowd energy is always so supportive and hype,” Dawn said. “It really encourages us and motivates us to not only win, but play for them as well. We want to give them something to watch and be proud of our Sunlake girls.” The packed stands and loud cheers created an atmosphere that pushed the team to play with extra heart and intensity.
Pasco presented challenges with their size and height, forcing Sunlake to rely on teamwork and trust on defense. “We had to really be connected, make the right rotations, and be strong and encouraging with each other,” Dawn explained.
Despite the challenges, Dawn emphasized her pride in the team. “I’m always forever proud of my team, no matter what game or day,” she said. “Our ability to adapt to change and all our hard work is truly inspiring.”
With strong chemistry and unwavering support from the Sunlake community, the girls varsity team continues to prove they are a force to watch this season.
