Senior; Leon Jones number 2 brings energy and focus to the court every time he suits up for boys’ basketball. With a team-first mindset and competitive drive, Jones approaches each ready to contribute in any way needed. Whether creating opportunities defending with intensity or pushing the pace, he plays with purpose and confidence. “I trust my teammates and we can definitely have a great game if we all just play together and leave it all on the court and give 110% of our effort.”
In a hard-fought game, the team showed strong effort but ultimately come up short. While the loss was disappointing, Jones sees it as motivation to improve and grow as a group. The experience reinforced the importance of finishing games strong and learning from every opportunity on the court.
Outside of games Jones has focused on expanding his game, especially by improving his shooting. “One thing I’ve been working on in practice is shooting so I can shoot the ball more on catch and shoot so I can help my team not only on defense but offense also.” By putting in extra working during practice, he aims to become a more complete player and a dependable option for his teammates.
He also recognizes the team’s biggest area for improvement. “We just need to do better on closing out games in the second half because we start off strong, but we need to play good defense to stop and to score.” Leon values honest communication and believes accountability help everyone improve. “Just tell me straight up like hey am I playing bad? Tell me why I can work on. So, I can fix it.”
Before games, Jones prepares by focusing mentally and physically. “I listen to music before the game and I stretch.” His competitive mindset drives him every time he steps on the court. “I’m a competitor and I don’t like to lose. So, whatever it takes to win.”
Through hard work, teamwork, and determination, Leon Jones continues to make an impact on boys basketball.
