Senior Night is always emotional, but for senior Alfonso Alfaro, it was especially meaningful. Preparing for the big night took discipline and determination. “I prepared by training hard, going to practice, and making sure I was on weight,” Alfonso explained. With the support of his teammates, he stayed focused and committed. “My teammates really helped me push myself and stay disciplined. They kept me motivated the whole time.”

The hard work paid off. Competing in his first match in two months, he delivered an unforgettable performance. “My match for senior night went really well,” Alfonso said proudly. “I won by pinning my opponent in the second period using my favorite move, the cradle.” The victory was not only a highlight of the evening but also a personal triumph after time away from the mat. “Winning on senior night meant a lot to me,” he added. “It was by far my favorite moment of the night.”
The stands were filled with familiar faces who came to cheer him on. “My mom, my dad, my sister, my grandma, my god family, and my amazing girlfriend all came out to support me,” he shared. Their presence fueled his determination. “Seeing everyone there really motivated me to make the night special by winning.”
While the night was nearly perfect, there was one small detail he would have changed. “I wouldn’t change much besides the volume of our walk-out songs,” he laughed. “We couldn’t hear it, so it felt like we were walking out to nothing.” Even so, the energy in the gym and the emotions of the evening overshadowed that minor issue.
As graduation approaches, he knows this season marks the end of his wrestling career. “This will be my last year of wrestling, and I’m really going to miss it,” he admitted. “I’ll miss my teammates, going to tournaments, and most of all the grind that came with wrestling.” Wrestling has been more than just a sport for him. He started his sophomore year as a way to recover from a knee injury he suffered during his freshman year. “I really got into it while coming back from that injury,” he explained. “It gave me something to work toward.”
Looking back, he is proud of how far he has come but still sees room for growth. “I definitely wish I could improve my time management skills,” he said honestly. Balancing school, work, and wrestling was challenging. “I wasn’t always able to put my full time and effort into wrestling because of everything else going on.”
Even so, his senior night victory stands as a testament to his resilience, dedication, and love for the sport—a night he will never forget.
