For Gabrielle Asabi, a 12th grader, this wrestling season has meant more than just wins and losses it has been about growth, resilience, and rediscovering her love for the sport during her final year of high school.

“So far, my season has been amazing,” Gabrielle shared. After coming back from an injury, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Instead of letting that setback define her, she used it as motivation. This season became a journey of finding herself again in wrestling while truly appreciating every moment with her teammates. Being back on the mat, stronger and more confident, made her senior year even more meaningful.

Senior Night was everything she hoped it would be  and more. “It was so bittersweet,” she said. “I had so much fun supporting my teammates but was so sad knowing it’s coming to a close.” The night was filled with special traditions: colorful posters hanging in her honor, senior shirts, cake, and the recognition she earned after years of dedication to the program. Every detail reminded her how far she has come since her freshman year.

The support in the stands made the night even more unforgettable. Gabrielle was surrounded by the people who have stood by her throughout her journey her parents, her grandma, her old coaches, and even her boyfriend’s family all came to cheer her on. Seeing so many familiar faces there just for her made stepping onto the mat feel even more special.

While the matches themselves were meaningful, Gabrielle says her favorite part of the night happened afterward. “Taking pictures with everyone at the end and eating cupcakes,” she said with a smile, was something she’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about wrestling it was about the memories, the friendships, and celebrating everything she’s accomplished.

Although her high school career is coming to an end, Gabrielle’s journey in wrestling is far from over. After graduation, she plans to wrestle in college. And if that path changes, she hopes to stay connected to the sport by becoming a coach.

No matter where life takes her, one thing is certain: Gabrielle Asabi’s passion for wrestling and the impact she’s made will last far beyond Senior Night. Her perseverance has inspired younger teammates to believe in themselves and embrace challenges, proving that dedication, heart, and courage can transform obstacles into defining moments of strength and success together.
