For many students, attending a state championship game is a memorable high school experience. Spirit buses allow students to travel together, support their classmates, and be part of an exciting moment for their school. For senior Quentin Minisee Dauphin, riding the spirit bus to watch Sunlake’s boys soccer team compete at states was something he didn’t want to miss. He decided to go because some of his friends were on the team, and he wanted to be there to support them and witness history.
The ride to the game was filled with excitement. Students on the bus were full of energy as they joked with each other and talked about the upcoming match. Music played loudly throughout the trip, helping keep the atmosphere lively. The playlist was very diverse, ranging from songs by 2Slimey to music by Shawn Mendes. Even though there wasn’t much chanting during the ride, the excitement could still be felt among everyone on the bus as they looked forward to the game.
Once the buses arrived at the stadium, the atmosphere became even more intense. The stands were filled with Sunlake fans who had come to support the team. Compared to the bus ride, the crowd at the stadium was much louder and more energetic. Students, parents, and supporters packed the stands, creating an environment that made the game feel even more important.
One of the most exciting moments of the match came when Jairo prepared to take a free kick. The crowd quieted down as everyone watched the play develop. He sent the ball into the air, and Elliot connected with it to score. The stadium immediately erupted with cheers as the team ran together to celebrate the goal.
Reflecting on the experience, Dauphin said, “If I could ever go again, I would in a heartbeat because that is a football match I will never forget.”
